Every year thousands of addicts die form this horribly tragic disease. 2014 in Nassau County alone, over 190 people died from a heroin or a prescription drug overdose. These are the victims of a tragic epidemic who’s deaths could have been prevented had they had the necessary tools to turn their lives around before it was too late. In an effort to combat accidental fatal overdoses in Nassau county executive Edward P. Mondona launched a free Narcan training program to the county’s residents. While this has added a great benefit to the counties resources it has not even touched the surface of the epidemic that has taking Nassau County by storm and young people are still turning to illicit drugs as a mean to cope with life.
